What is Skill Matching?
Skill matching is the process of matching real players together in a tournament who possess a similar level of skill for that specific game title.
A player's skill level is constantly evolving as players play more games and gain more experience on WorldWinner. A player's skill level is based on past performance playing each game title and will vary for each game title played.
Skill Matching is used for all Head-to-Head and Multiplayer contests. However, skill matching is not used in larger tournament formats.
Why does WorldWinner have Skill Matching?
Matching players against other players of comparable skill level ensures the best experience for all players - also giving players a more fair opportunity to compete and win.
We want to make sure you have a challenge that's best for your skill level!
All players within the same tournament will receive the same starting board/layout/hands/cards/etc. and will have similar opportunities to score and solve each game.
All tournament matching is handled prior to the player playing their entry into each tournament - not after they've played their game and achieved a final score of their game.
How is my skill level determined?
WorldWinner's internal skill matching system takes into account numerous data points/criteria that effects how players are matched. Here are just a few factors taken into account:
- # of cash tournaments played (free, practice tournament play is not counted towards your skill-level)
- Scores/Results in previous cash tournaments
- Average and Highest Scores achieved in cash tournaments (A player’s average score is only a small factor in determining their skill level. Additionally, the average score for a player is inclusive of scores from all modes in each game).
- Length of time played the game
- Win Ratio (amount of tournaments won vs. lost)
There is other criteria taken into account that contributes to the matching experience and also some criteria that are more heavily weighted than others. A player’s skill level is only based on past performance playing the specific game and is not influenced by any other factor.
WorldWinner does not make any material adjustments to the skill matching process and will never intervene in the matching of players.
When does my skill level change?
As players begin to play the games, WorldWinner quickly assesses a player’s skill level and matches them in contests against similarly-skilled players. TA player’s skill level evolves over time to give you the best matched experience possible.
Newer players are protected from inadvertently competing against highly skilled players which keeps the playing field level, and creates a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
Am I playing live against someone else?
No, most WorldWinner tournaments are asynchronous and evenly balanced, meaning you and your opponent are playing the exact same round or game board layout-- but just at different times. WorldWinner plans to offer new tournament options in the future where players could play against other players in real-time.
